How this is calculated
We keep this transparent on purpose. Every line uses a conservative, published average multiplied by your inputs, across about 260 working days a year:
- Reduced idle fuel: an idling vehicle burns ~0.8 gallons/hour (U.S. Department of Energy). We assume tracking trims about 30% of your idle time.
- Fewer wasted miles: tighter routing and less off-route/personal use cut roughly 8% of miles; we convert that to fuel at about 12 MPG and your fuel price.
- Lower maintenance: repair and maintenance run about 19.8 cents/mile (ATRI, 2024). Fewer miles means lower wear.
- Recovered labor time: we credit about 10 minutes of recovered productive time per vehicle per day at the wage you set. This is the most variable line.
- Theft-risk reduction: tracked vehicles are recovered over 90% of the time vs. under 60% without (NICB). We apply that to a conservative annual theft risk and loss per vehicle.
